Pants Suit

Dateline Washington, DC:
Judge Roy L. Pearson has taken the term "frivolous lawsuit" to new heights. The Judge is suing his dry-cleaner for $54 million dollars for loosing his pants. Judge Roy was suing for $67 million, but lowered it after public outcry over the excessive amount (I guess $54 million is not excessive).

Seems Judge Roy dropped his pants off at the cleaners to be let-out (middle-age spread will cause this), and when he came back later that day, the cleaners couldn't find them. The pants were found a couple of days later (the ticket matched the one the Judge had ... so I am assuming they were the pants), but Judge Roy said they were not his. Judge Roy says he is suing because signs in the window said "Satisfaction Guaranteed" and "Same Day Service" and he was not satisfied. The owners of the dry-cleaners tried to settle with him, offering him $2000.00 for his pants ... but the judge would have none of that.

The trial started yesterday ... and hopefully will end today.

Does anyone else see the ridiculousness of this entire waste of judicial time?

seems to me i read some more about this case not long ago. the owners are immigrants (legal) i believe? this guy is doing nothing less than trying to drive hardworking people right out of business...talk about vindictive. let's go toilet paper his house and lock him up with paris hilton.

The shit that comes across the courtroom now a days makes me sick! What a waste of time, energy and resources!

myutopia ... not at all funny and very sad. I wonder what he would do if someone brought a case like this to his court?

blanco ... he just wants something for nothing.

jel ... this has been going on for months

snow ... believe it ... and be afraid, be very afraid.

lime ... the owners are Korean immigrants and the judge is African American. There seems to be a lot of animosity between these two groups and I wonder if this is the result. There are many people who object to Asian Immigrants opening stores in Black communities and making money off of them ... if the Asians didn't open these inner city stores, who would?

jenny ... you said it! But the trial lawyers hire excellent lobbyists so tort reform will never be enacted (besides the fact that nearly half of Congress are lawyers).

I know it has, it's a sad day that they would even bring it to court!

it's a pair pants, please!!!!!!!

Ludicrous - I hope the judge loses the case and has to pay costs!

Paul Champagne said...

jel ... this is an administrative law judge ... I would hate to see the stuff that goes on in his courtroom :P

Paul Champagne said...

akelamalu ... in a perfect legal system, the case would have been thrown out before it went to trial and the judge would have had to pay the dry-cleaners for their lawyer ... this is not a perfect system.

But we can always hope.

Unbeleivable waste of my tax $

I've seen that before. He should be disbarred!

THIS is the most ridiculous and biggest abuse of our justice system. Our courts are innundated with frivilous lawsuits, and we wonder why costs are continually rising for services and products.
The real injustice is that this man believes his pants are worth millions of dollars.
For crying out loud!!!

UPDATE

I tried searching for the Judge's Bio and it has been removed from District of Columbia's web-site. Seems the judge's 10 year appointment ended on May 1st and he is waiting for re-appointment. Unbelievably while he is waiting, he is still collecting a $100,000+ salary as a consultant ... courtesy of the taxpayers.

gale ... welcome to my blog ... do you have any idea how much of the nationl debt would be wiped out if the government and idiots like Judge Roy would just stop wasting our tax dollars ... we would probably be at a surplus.

jillie ... welcome to my blog ... disbarrment should be the least of what should happen. Imagine what he has done to the American Dream of the owners of that store.

shibari ... he says his pants are worth $1200.00, the rest of the money is for damages ... he was really emotionally attatched to those pants. What I can't see is why the trial judge didn't throw it out ... must be professional (stupidity) courtesy.

And the pants were made of diamonds? Since he couldn´t afford a new pair. I guess he really hates the idea of having to go shopping new pants...

It´s funny for about 3 seconds. Then it´s sad...

evalinn ... it actually is funny for that 3 seconds, and I feel bad that I feel that way.

This is an affront to any hard working family trying to make a living and not trying to get something for nothing, sounds like the judge needs a review of reasonable justice, like the punishment must fit the crime and reasonable reconpense or remedy. My God, where is restorative justice, making a person whole and the whole ball of wax???

That last was my post, but I hadn't signed in...Sorry.....

Paul Champagne said...

tapline ... I think it's a matter of race. There appears to be a lot of animosity between African Americans (the judge) and Asians (the dry cleaners) in the inner cities.

That being said ... this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, outdistancing by far the McDonalds coffee fiasco.

You see, this is why we have gunships patrolling our highway here in DC. They wait for these people to come by and "take them out". 54 million for a pair of lost pants.

This judge has got to be a dem.

mike ... I don't know which party the judge aligns himself with. Administrative law judges are appointed to 10 year terms in DC.
