Dateline ... Tripoli

Who would have thought that a front on the "War On Terror" would be fought near a city made famous in the Marine Corps Hymn (from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli), but that is exactly what is happening right now. The Lebanese army has surrounded a Palestinian refugee camp, housing radical Fatah militants who have been holed-up there for 13 days. The Lebanese troops have started tightening the noose, going building to building, and attempting to clear the roughly 400 militants there. Last night they wiped out a unit of these militants, trying to escape the cordon.

Seems that the Lebanese Army seems to know how to deal with terrorists ... Can anyone say Sadr City?

what a strange position to be in. We used to hear about fightinginthe middle east andthink that was something they did but now it seems that as we are in the mix (I guess by that I mean America) these battles and civil wars take on such an importance.

Paul, it is NOT going to happen. The IFWs [islamofascist warriors] running Sadr City [and the rest of the IFW-friendly cities] are under the protection of the IRAQi government - plus, our incompetent administration is trying hard to "win the hearts and minds" of the IRAQis, and, we do not want to be portrayed as the Middle East Bully. Good example follows, our Marines were giving the IFWs a good whipping in the city of Fallujah [back in the Spring of 2004]. We lost muchos GIs there, but the IFWs suffered massive casualties [killing ratio 15 to 1] - the man running the show for us [Marine General Conway] was ordered [by someone in Washington] to STOP the as*whipping because several Arab countries [our friends] were complaining about all the killing done by our SUPERIOR military machine [our friends did not want to see Americans killing Arabs]. Bottom line - THE ASSAULT on Sadr City [if/when it happens] will have to be done by the incompetent [US-trained] IRAQi Army. Thanks for reading this book !!!

jenny ... efficient yes, but there are still civilians in the camp ... could be a little rough on them.

lettuce ... no gardening? ... but I am sowing the seeds to free thinking.

sarah ... there is no more over there when it comes to war. In this century, geo-political entaglements link any and everything, thanks for stopping by.

snowelf ... it does actually seem somewhat surreal, I wish everyone could join the military or the peace corps and see for themselves what the world is like. It's both facinating and horrifying.

tlrb ... I think your response is longer than my original post, but that's fine. We may be getting help from former Baathists ... read my newest post.

This is my first time to visit this blog. excellent post...I think that the biggest thing to remember is, these people think so far from where we are, moralistically, that is to say their ourlook on what constitutes life and ours is 180 degrees off. They live from day to day They plan differently,,,their customs are completed alien to ours. We must keep that in mind when we reach agreement with them.....Im rambling does it make sense???

It's a matter of indoctrination with these terrorists. Free thinking is discouraged, and the mindless following of the clergy is the norm. What they need is some decent TV stations ... where is Radio Free Arabia when we need it?
